Plaster/Stucco : Metal Lath

Three-coat plaster over-metal-lath, or stucco over-metal-lath are some of the most commonly used plastering systems in the United States. With the passing years, cement based stuccos have begun to show their age. Failure of these products exemplified by cracking, generally occurring due to excessive hardness of the cement or poor workmanship, is one of the most frequent occurrences. Although the industry has tried to compensate for these failures by blending and adding more chemical components, we should still be skeptical about their overall performance in the years to come. Meanwhile, the main drawback of these stuccoes is the lack of vapor exchange - trapping water inside the walls in the form of condensation.
