Plaster/Stucco : Adobe, Cob, Earth Plaster
Cob or Adobe construction is a very simple (and efficient) form of construction that has been around in some form or other since man can remember. Structures are made from an earth compound (normally containing a high clay content), that includes some straw and a sufficient amount of water to make the mixture readily workable. The exact ingredients are prone to change, as are the many different names given to the various techniques of earth building. Depending on where you are in the country and with whom you talk to, most builders follow the same, very simple earth-building principles. These techniques are tried and true, and tested over many generations. Once built, the structures are then covered with some form of protection, normally a plaster coat.
